Deadline for filing exemption applications is April 1st
Homestead Exemption
- Legal Resident of Maine
- Own homestead property in Maine for at least the past 12 months
- This homestead property must be your permanent place of residence and the
only Property for which you are claiming the exemption
(Summer camps, vacation homes, and second residences do not qualify)
- You only need to apply for this exemption once. This exemption gives you $
7,000 off the valuation of your property, an estimated savings of
approximately $80 at the current rate.
Veterans. Widows
- WWI veterans receive a $7,000 real estate tax exemption.
- WWII, Korea and Vietnam veterans reaching the age of 62 OR when they
receive any pension or compensation from the U.S. Government for total
disability are entitled to a $5,000 exemption.
- This exemption applies to veterans, Gold Star Mothers, unremarried widows
or minor child and paraplegic veterans. This is a one-time application.
Blind
- Residents who are legally blind as determined by a properly licensed
doctor of medicine receive a $4,000 real estate tax exemption.
